In the field of Criminal Profiling one-way profilers are able to narrow down their suspect pool is by defining an offender as organized or disorganized. Profilers “classify offenders by virtue of the level of sophistication, planning and competence evident in the crime scene.”75 The organized and disorganized terminology was developed in the 1980s as a way to more successfully teach profiling. 75These terms were also developed because it made it easier for profilers to deliver and communicate a profile to law enforcement agencies. Two psychologists Ressler and Shachtman further explain psychology terminology would hold no meaning to law enforcement personnel who have not been trained in psychology.
