Memoir It was my first weekend working as kennel staff at the Hampton Veterinary Center. Tanner and I were still training under Taylor. I was in a hurry, I had plans. Plans that I was excited for and nervous all at the same time. I had made sure ahead of time that we would be able to get out of there by 5:15. Tanner on the other hand had no agenda. I was running around doing twice as much work as him. Sweaty and exhausted, I left at 5:15. I drove home and tried to find the right outfit. Not too dressy, but nice enough to impress. Yes, it was only a graduation party, but I still was trying to fit in. I had managed to get there with 45 minutes of the party left. When I walked in, Pam greeted me and proceed to tell me that Lane and his cousin,…show more content…
It was after 8 when we started to clean up. Guess what, I ended up with another baby! Eden is the cutest, and not nearly as heavy a Jo’s great-grandson. When everything was about cleaned up, almost everybody went outside. The kids were playing tag and adults were saying their goodbyes. Laura and Katelyn loaded up Trysten’s cruiser race car. Boy, that was a sight! Lane needed to get fuel, so I jumped in with him. Blake told me to behave, and it reminded me of when we were younger, he was so much like an older brother, just looking out for me. We made it back and helped pack up the rest of the graduation stuff. I was suppose to go home after the graduation party. I didn’t, I went back to Lane’s house and helped them unload everything. This was my first mistake of the night, many more to come, I would learn. We had everything unloaded, once again another perfect opportunity to leave and still have good excuses. But instead Alex, Lane, Robert, (Lane’s little brother), and I went up to Lane’s room. We were all just hanging out. Robert was playing on the Laptop, Lane and I were talking, and Alex was on his iPad. Pretty soon it was 10:30 and my mom called asking where I was, why I was so late, and why I hadn’t called to tell her what was going on. I simply told her I would leave very…show more content…
I knew I was going to be in trouble. Less than three miles of gravel, then, about ten more on the highway, and I would be home, that usually took me 16 minutes. On the gravel, at the first bridge, I looked at my speedometer… 65 miles per hour! Another mistake. Keep in mind, I drive a little Chevy Cobalt. I got nervous, but my driver’s education training kicked in. I remembered something about not hitting the brakes. I couldn’t remember why. So, I just let off the gas. Still going about 60 miles per hour I started to fishtail. I got really nervous and tapped my brakes. Biggest mistake of the whole night! I did a 180. I was now facing the opposite direction, in a ditch. My head ached. My first thought was to drive out, mom will never have to know. Yeah, that wasn’t going to happen. I was stuck. I called my mom, and became hysterical. I was balling and freaking out. Mom kept telling me to slow down. It sounded like the gas tank was punctured and was chugging out. I hadn't even turned off my car yet. I looked out my driver window and there was a tree branch about as round as a softball pressed and bent up against the glass. I do not know how or why it did not come through my window. If it had the chances of me writing this paper would be slim. Then all of the sudden my shoe got wet! I pulled my knee to my chest still on the phone with my mom, she told me to turn off my car and get out. She said she was on her
