According to Merriam Webster Dictionary, the definition of life is an organismic state characterized by capacity for metabolism, growth, reaction to stimuli, and reproduction; the sequence of physical and mental experiences that make up the existence of an individual. When we all think about life, we don’t think about the exact definition, we think about what makes our lives so great, and what makes us, us in everyday life. Everything we do in life is base off our choices, so depending on what choices we make, is how well our life will turn out. Just like Newton’s law, every action has a reaction, so every choice we make helps determine whether our life will have a lot of negative impacts or positive impacts. All negative and positive choices are apart of the human condition, it is what makes us,us. You must grow, “die”, and learn to better yourself. Growth means progressive development, so when we make decisions, we either grow or we learn from that decision. A good way to grow as a person is to expand your mind.…show more content…
In life, you can have plenty of deaths, but one form of death is death to past. By death to past, you can delete or erase all the negativity out of your life, so you can grow as a person. In the Examined Life, West says, “By death what he means is not an event, but a death in life.” West was basically saying that we have to realize that something needs to be gone in our lives, in order to reach true happiness. Another form of death is death to self. Sometimes it takes you changing yourself to grow and become who you want to be. Cornel West says, “It takes more courage to examine the dark corners of your own soul, then it does for a soldier to fight on the battlefield.” I believe that the author was saying that we have to be able to realize all the negative aspects about ourselves to be able to move on and become a better
