Golding uses Simon, Roger, and Piggy as allegorical figures in the novel to make them larger than life in order to connect the reader to the deeper significance they hold as characters of humanity. Simon is representative of a Christ figure in the story with his gentleness, kindness, and ultimate sacrifice. Roger demonstrates the progression of savagery in humankind, and when it goes unchecked it leads to murder.
