Leadership is vital for success. Too much leadership can corrupt a society. Too minute of guidance and humanity will collapse. A good leader is one who is well respected and liked by many. If he is neither of these then no one will listen to what they have to say and this will not benefit anyone. A leader also has to be wise and selfless enough to listen to the thoughts/ concerns of the people they are leading. Willing to take others ideas to help better whatever the situation may be. As well as listening to both sides, not just favoring one more so than another. In the novel Lord of the Flies Jack is the most effective leader. He listens to what the boys want; food, shelter, and be able to enjoy themselves while they have freedom from any grownups. At the same time Jack is a cruel and oppressive ruler. He uses physical power to get the boys to do what he wants. He is quick to acknowlege that the use of physical power is very affective in his situation. So, he uses it. He is not always necessarily the most loved by everyone he is leading but, he gets done what needs to be accomplished. He is very intimidating for the littuns especially. He really cares how the boys feel and wants the best for the entire group not just himself in power. He wants to lead the group as one whole healthy bunch to safety. He is the youngster that realizes that creating a signal fire would make the most sense in helping them be seen from far away. He thinks this is their best chance of rescue and starts the fires. When the fire is unattended and goes out he loses it. He thinks this is one of their only chances and it’s not OK to let it go out. He is afraid it could diminish their chances of being found sooner. He then commands the gang to start building shelters. He is now thinking about safe housing for a long period of
