Although many Americans believe that ketchup is an American however its origins date back to the Chinese. The word ketchup “comes from the Hokkien Chinese word, kê-tsiap, the name of a sauce derived from fermented fish” (Wiggins). Americans did not start using tomatoes in their ketchup until the 18th Century. Now, ketchup or catsup can be found in almost any American household. It can be used with many different dishes like hamburgers, chicken tenders, French fries, meatloaf and even eggs. The most popular ketchup brand is Heinz which has been making ketchup since 1869. It was not necessary back then to make advertisements that would attract more customers because Heinz was already the leading brand. However nowadays there is a lot more competition. Recently there has been a health craze that has spread all the way to the condiment section. Now Heinz has to compete with brands that pride themselves in being organic.…show more content…
On the bottom of the advertisement, the words “No one grows Ketchup like Heinz”. This advertisement is emphasizing the fact that Heinz makes their ketchup with real tomatoes instead of using artificial flavorings like other companies do. Furthermore, this advertisement emphasizes the familiar red color of ketchup by employing the same colored background. The advertisement is very simple compared to most advertisements that emphasize the name of the brand more than any other feature.
