The method that the authors followed in (Barker, et al., 2013) constituted of the patients in the intervention group following this enhanced program for recovery up to 8 weeks after surgert, with no hip precautions and full-weight bearing from the first day. Throughout the program, the patients were taught to decrease the use of aids, increase distance walked, sideways and backwards stepping and changes of direction and speed. The main focus here was to improve the active range-of-motion and lower limb strength. Further activities such as balance retraining, weight bearing exercises and sit-to-stand were included to improve pelvic stability. The control group received routine hospital treatment used for total hip arthroplasty which included partial weight bearing exercise.
