Getting pulled out of high school by my parents was not how I wanted to leave Riverbend High School. I was sure my life was over and that I would grow to be an extremely lonely homo sapien. I thought my hopes and dreams could never be achieved because I wasn’t in a regular public high school. I felt like my future plans to leave Virginia and go to an amazing college in the city were ruined. As time went on I realized my life wasn’t dull and it would get better. I realized my “high school experience”was ending early that Monday. The reality of my situation hit me when I didn’t have to get up at five in the morning; which is what my daily routine included. Starting Penn Foster was a little nerve-racking because I’d never done online classes. Luckily, the curriculum for Penn Foster was not very different from the curriculum I was familiar with in public school. Penn Foster went more in depth which was different from public school where they taught the standardized tests. As I was adapting to Penn Foster I realized it was an“at your own pace” type of program. I can finish my high school diploma earlier than my friends and get a head start on looking at the career path I want to take. I also can start saving up for college by getting a job; which isn’t always easy to do when you’re in school during the day. Penn Foster has opened up many doors for me to explore new possibilities. Moving forward I am excited to venture out and try new things. The “new things” are not just mainstream ideas or popular trends. I am no longer so influenced by other people's opinions that I can’t even reach my own. I became interested in photography and traveling; which I have more time to explore not being in public school.
