To what extent is Social Media changing the way we live today? Introduction: The latest statistics from Audrey Willis, from Higher Ed Marketing Journal show that there were, by August 15th 2017, 2.8 billion social media users worldwide. That is over a third of the world’s population. This year alone has social media users grown by 176 million. This means that there are still about 4 million people that are not social media users. This is far more than I thought. With this in mind, my report sets out to explore how social media has altered our every day lives, how we live and how we communicate in our societies. The issues will be explored from global, national and personal points of view, taking on perspectives from my home country Denmark.…show more content…
I have a profile on so many different social media pages. I have a profile on, for example, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, Snapchat, Wattpad and YouTube. I spend probably around 2 hours or more each day on Social Media sites. I spend the hours on communicating with friends, watching videos or doing other things that Social Media sites let you do. Social Media is a great invention because it lets you make new friends, discover new things and publish aspects of your life on a forum where others can follow it. Social Media is extremely addicting and suddenly you can’t imagine living without it, it can take away your boredom or let you escape an awkward situation because you have a reason to stare at your device instead of facing the situation, which can be argued extremely bad, as we tend to lack in social confrontation skills. Of course one bad aspect of social media is that it requires a device and that means we don’t meet new people face to face or actually face a situation in real life, today everything goes on, on the device. But I don’t really see the problems that other people seem to find in Social Media. Some claim that it makes teenagers really antisocial but really it doesn’t, for me it makes me put myself out there and do different things than what I am used to
