New Year’s Resolution New year’s resolutions are a part of the modern-day culture that created at the start of every year. This means that the resolutions are made at the beginning of January, and January is named after the roman god of choices and beginnings, Janus. The article, “Why Do People Make New Year’s Resolutions” from Wonderopolis.com, says that, “The tradition of New Year's resolutions dates all the way back to 153 B.C.,” and the ancient romans made promises to Janus to return borrowed goods and to pay their debts. The ancient Babylonians are also credited to have started the new year’s resolution tradition although they did not use the month of January. The practice of the resolutions allows people to improve their lives in the coming year. An example of this is to promise to change or stop a bad habit such as smoking or eating junk food. Playing the piano can be a challenge sometimes. At least getting a 95 in most of my classes will get me a principal’s honor roll, keep me in tag classes, and help me get into better and more advanced classes.
