Art is “The expression or application of human creative skill and imagination”. ( It is appreciated primarily for their beauty or power. Over many centuries humans have been showing their creative skill and imagination through many different forms of art. Some nations have used art in order to assert their dominance over other nations, Stonehenge and Roman coins are just some examples. Stonehenge is an ancient and mysterious piece of art found in England with an age estimated at about 5000 years ago. It is the most architecturally sophisticated prehistoric stone circle in the world. They also used art as a method to gain respect. Ancient Egypt is one of the earliest and one of the longest lasting civilisations in the history of the world. In Egypt the pyramids are one of the most well known structures in the world. The colossal structures seem to engulf their surroundings and were built from 2589 B.C. onwards in honour of the pharaohs at the time. Each one of the pyramids served as a tomb for the ruling Pharaoh at the time. Given the immense size of the task at hand, the construction of the pyramid began during the reign of the Pharaoh, and continued until the Pharaoh died and his body embalmed. The pyramids were a representation of the power of Egypt. They were built as places for burial of the pharaohs, and the bigger the pyramid was, it showed the power and wealth the pharaoh had at the moment over other nations. Art and architecture, engineering, medicine and statecrafts which is the art of government and diplomacy are just some fields of achievements the Ancient Egyptians acquired, putting themselves ahead of rival nations.
