Ernest Hemingway was born on July 21, 1899 in Cicero, Illinois. His parents are Clarence and Grace Hemingway. The family spent a great deal of time in their cabin in Northern Michigan. This is where Ernest learned to appreciate the outdoors. In his years of high school Ernest worked on his school newspaper, Trapeze and Tabula. In this newspaper he mostly wrote about sports In 1918, serving as an ambulance driver, Ernest went to Italy to join the Italian army. There he earned the Italian Silver metal of bravery. He got injuries that made him be in a hospital in Milan. There he met a nurse named Agnes von Kurowsky. They got engaged but she left him for another man before the wedding. While working with the Toronto Star Hemingway met the woman who would be his first wife, Hadley Richardson. They moved to Paris where he worked as a foreign correspondent for the star. While in Paris Hemingway became a key part of “the lost generation”. With Stein as his mentor Hemingway met many famous writers and artists.…show more content…
In 1925, the couple took a trip to the San Fermin festival in Pamplona, Spain. That festival would provide the basis of hemingway’s first novel. Soon after the publishment of his first novel He and Hadley got divorced. Part of the reason the divorced was because of his affair with Pauline Pfeiffer who would become his second wife. Pauline became pregnant and the couple decided to move back to the U.S. Their son Patrick Hemingway was born in 1928.
