Ernest Hemingway was born in Cicero , Illinois on July 21, 1899. He lived in a average neighborhood with his parents Clarence and Grace Hemingway. When he was a child, the family would take Ernest to a cabin in northern Michigan. This is were the Ernest began to learn about the outdoors and nature. While in high school, he worked on a newspaper called the Trapeze and Tabula which consisted mainly of sports related content. After high school, he became a journalist of the Kansas City Star. When World War I broke out in Europe, Ernest traveled to Europe to be a ambulance driver for the Italian Army. He was given the Italian Silver Medal of Bravery for his actions. He came to know a man named Gertrude Stein that became his mentor. While being mentored by Stein, he met many famous and great writers of the time. Hemingway and Hadley had a son and named him John Hadley Nicanor Hemingway. In 1925, Hemingway went to a festival in Pamplona, Spain called the Festival of San Fermin. This gave him inspiration for his first novel called The Sun also Rises. This novel is widely considered one of his greatest works that he created. After the divorce was finalized, Hemingway and his new wife Martha Gellhorn bought a house for the winter close to Havana, Cuba. When World War II broke out for the U.S., he was a close correspondent to the action and was in attendance of some of the most important events in history such as D- Day.
