The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway was an unique and original work of literature. I believe that this novel relates best to modernism. The novel talks about a man who is injured in the war, and then falls in love with the nurse who tends to his wounds. Jake, the main character and the love of his life, Brett fall in love, but soon realize that there will always be something missing. Jake lost a vital organ that therefore limited him in giving Brett what she needed. She was obsessed with sex and Jake simply could not provide. The novel has tenants that start the movement of how they believe men should act versus the reality of what “real love” is.
