Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury for women between the ages of 15 and 44 in the United States. In the United States there are more shelters for animals than shelters for battered women and there children. One in every four women experience domestic violence in their lifetime. 85% of domestic violence victims are woman.16, 800 homicides and $2.2 million worth of injuries occur due to intimate partner violence annually in the United States. Domestic violence does only affect the victim at the exact time of the incident but it will forever affect her and her family. Victims are reluctant about telling anyone about what they are going through because of fear. Fear that if there abuser finds out they will abuse them more or even try to abuse the person they told. Outsiders often wonder why Domestic Violence stay in these abusive environments but it is a lot harder than people would expect. If a person is ever a victim of domestic violence they should call 911 and report every incident that occurs for police records, talk to a trusted friend or family remember for support, go to a safe house victims, have a plan to protect yourself and family. The important thing for any domestic violence victim’s to remember is that it I never there fought. A lot of times victims feel like they did something wrong or are not worthy of their partner and that is the reason why they are getting abused. Women often time think domestic violence is just physical but it can be mental, emotional, economic, sexual, using intimidation tactics, using threats, jealousy and even children.
