The article I chose discusses many issues that President Barack Obama touches bases on that deals with occupation. First he starts off by giving minor facts that implement on America’s economy and how we have come a long way. He mentions the middle class and how we as Americans have waited patiently for many opportunities to come our way. Many opportunities such as affordable health care, affordable living, and fair pay. Barack traveled to different states to address the issue and mentioned, by 2016 the pay for overtime workers will be boosted up based off white collar workers. This means the pay will be fairly equal for middle-class workers, compared to upper-class people who get most of the money. Obama also gave many suggestions based off…show more content…
Obama’s main point of the article is to get the audience to understand his explanation of making pay equal to all. He mentions many aspects about the middle class and higher class gap of occupation that interferes with their income. Based off Obama points, Gilbert mentions many things in relation to occupation and pay. Obama wants to increase pay for overtime workers, so they will feel their work is more appreciated. Gilbert discusses white-collar work and blue collar work. He mentions “white collar work is more skilled jobs and blue collar work was more for the class of working” (Gilbert, p 49). In relations, Obama stated “We've got to keep making sure hard work is rewarded. Right now, too many Americans are working long days for less pay than they deserve with the exemption of highly paid white collar workers.” (Obama, p2). The reference Obama makes about white collar workers makes shows relation to Gilbert’s point about white and blue collar workers. In those terms, white collar work meant you were doing desk duty and making more money, and blue collar jobs meant you were going to get dirty and make less money.
