The History of computers from primitive abaci to laptops, have evolved through time to become an essential part of our technocratic society. The development of computers has shaped the way science and technology is viewed in different cultures around the world. Today any information we seek is just a click away. My fascination with computers started when my father took me to his office and I saw a computer for the very first time. It was one of the most memorable moments of my life. During my final year in school, computer science was introduced to the curriculum. It was around the same time that India witnessed a revolution in IT sector. In my final year of college, as a part of my project I developed a software program “Conversion of video to animated stills” in .net and c# which converts MPEG4 videos to high definition animated stills. This project had many real life applications like analysis of fast moving videos, frame by frame for decision making purposes in cricket matches or generation of a slow motion video by combining still images. This is when I was attracted to the world of Data Analytics. The Science of understanding how to curate and prepare data, analyze it, deduce unknown correlations and other useful information and using it to make better decisions. I was appreciated and recognized for this project from our university and this positive reinforcement was indeed a precursor to many upcoming achievements and my never ending enthusiasm for Data Science. After finishing college, I also got an opportunity to teach engineering mathematics temporarily at Indotech Engineering College, Orissa which has certainly been one of the invaluable experiences in my…show more content…
In my formative years as a software professional, I learnt various technologies like Java, J2EE and SDLC, Data Analytics, ETL. However, my inclination towards data science prompted me to pick a related project. For first two and a half years in TCS, I worked with a major insurance and healthcare client in USA called Kaiser Permanente as an ETL analyst to a patient healthcare account. I learnt about processing unformatted Data, its analysis and ways to combine and design raw data to make it more palatable for business consumption. My core technologies were UNIX, Clarity, Hyperspace, Remedy, Business Objects and Teradata database. After successfully delivering the Kaiser project I was more inclined to go for the Visualization side of data analytics. So I joined General Electric, Power & Water account where a new requirement to design and develop Data visualizations in the form of a story and dashboard came. I assumed the role of a BI consultant and module lead, responsible for designing end to end BI solutions for GE Power sector in a reporting technology called Tableau. Me and my team developed data warehouse design to support the reporting requirements with database optimization standards. I was instantly recognized as an invaluable asset and on-boarded to Atlanta, Georgia USA where I was assigned the role of a Business Analysts. I was in charge of communicating with the client
