INTRODUCTION Science tends to alter, but these alterations are small. New discoveries in various fields of science made every day. Usually, these findings give strength to existing theories. Before Charles Darwin, Christian worldview was a paradigm in society. The idea was enforced by church officials and affirmed by scientific observation. According to Christian worldview plant and animal species remain unchanged, God is the designer of all living creatures in the world. However, turmoil occurs in science too. One of this upheaval is Charles Darwin’s theory of Evolution. It was totally contrary to the Christian worldview. His theory states that species tend to change, plant and animal species evolved through natural selection. On the other…show more content…
Carolus Linnaeus (1707-1778) was Swedish physician, zoologist, and botanist. He is well - known as a “father” of taxonomy and binomial classification. Binomial classification is a widely used naming system for biological organisms around the world. Linnaeus’s binomial classification was based on God’s plan. (James 2015, p 325) Every plant or animal was given Latin names. First part denotes to genus and the second part indicated the species. Genus is a name for the group of close organisms. In order to distinguish certain species from others, specific word species was implied by Carolus Linnaeus. For instance homo sapiens. “Homo” stands for the genus, whereas sapiens is the specific epithet. He supported the view of Christian because his classification confirmed the idea of fixity of species. However, later Linnaeus pondered about the various distinction of species. (James 2015, p…show more content…
When it comes to modern world, it is worthy to mention “antievolutionism,” which encompasses broader category of creationism. Antievolutionists implies idea of creation by intelligent design (ID). One of such groups declared that they have successfully cloned a human. This statement rejects creationism and evolution. Since 2002 strong supporters of ID are trying to overthrow evolution and plead in favor of teaching their own alternative theory in schools. However their attempts have been unsuccessful so far. (Robert 2003) CONCLUSION In 1859, Charles Darwin’s “ On the Origin of Species ” was published. Yet, Darwin’s theory is one of the most debatable topics in biology. He proposed the theory which stands for that all species in the world came from common ancestors. His view was criticized and opposed by Christian religion. Darwin’s theory was controversial because of prominent creationist scientists; second law of thermodynamics; movement of ID. However, time has proved credibility and viability of Darwin’s theory. And his work have been recognized around the world
