The causes of the fall of the Roman Empire are numerous. Military overspending, large-scale government corruption, and financial troubles were some of the main reasons. Rome’s own ambition was also partially to blame, as the overexpansion of the Empire caused quite a logistics headache. What really sparked Rome’s downfall, though, was the massive invasion of Germanic barbarians, the Goths. At first the Goths simply wanted somewhere else to live, but were met with cruel treatment by the Roman government. Eventually the Goths got sick of the torment inflicted upon them by the Romans, and started a revolt.
