“Life comes from physical survival; but the good life comes from what we care about” (Rollo May). A major theme in Jack London’s classic The Call Of The Wild is that life is to kill or to be kill. In the Beginning of the book, buck has to learn that life is to kill or to be killed. First, Bucks needs to learn that he could be killed or he could have his friends killed. For instance, curly died after she loses a fight with a husky. since curly died in a fight with a husky, buck has to learn that he could be killed or his friends could be killed. Second, buck has to learn that he won’t be the only one killed if he doesn’t kill. For instance, Dolly was trying to attack buck who runs from her until Francois clubs her in the head and kills her. Since buck almost got killed, this tells him that he has to learn to kill or he will be killed. Last, Buck has to learn that in the wild he will have to fight for his life or he will be tasty meat. For example, Buck and Spitz fight, Spitz is winning until buck uses his imagination to come up with an attack plan that breaks Spitz’s front legs.
