One of the worlds seven wonders is the prized world heritage area of the great barrier reef. This is the largest living structure and coral reef system in the entire world. The great barrier reef sprawls over a dumbfounding 344 400 square kilometres. This is an area so large it can be seen from space and its complex system is filled with more than 300 coral cays, 600 tropical islands and 3 000 individual reef systems. This system provides a refuge for an astounding variety of marine plants and animals which range from ancient turtles, families of reef fish, 134+ species of sharks and rays and 400 different hard or soft corals with a plethora of underwater paddocks of seaweeds. But now The Great Barrier Reef has just experienced the worst coral bleaching ever recorded in the history of the great barrier reef. In the northern third of the Great Barrier Reef, however, the scientists have found that about half of all corals have died. And as stated before the great barrier reef can be helped, but only if we can change our ways within a matter of years and this is to be 100% renewable. We’re running out of time. Climate change has already had implications on The coral reefs in the Great Barrier Reef however the Corals are highly vulnerable to its potential and destructive effects. as the backbone of the Great Barrier Reef is made out of an ecosystem consisting of majoritively hard and soft corals alike, this climate changing phenomenon Will cause the destruction of the Great Barrier Reef. the hard and soft corals within the Great Barrier Reef form habitats for hundreds of thousands of species This includes Fishes such as The angelfish, butterflyfish, clownfish, parrotfish, Groupers, surgeonfish, triggerfish, and wrasse.
