The real risk of feeding healthy animals antibiotics, is that if the animal is not sick, the antibiotics will kill off the weaker bacteria, and then the bacteria that is left will become what we call antibiotic-resistant bacteria. One of the risks of antibiotic resistant bacteria being transferred from livestock to humans is the fact that they can be transferred in multiple ways. The way that these bacteria can travel includes: traveling though the water, soil, air, or even the people who handle the contaminated animals or meat (2).
