“The Dare” Analysis
“The Dare” is a short autobiographical story by Roger Hoffman. Hoffman as a grown man, recounts his memories as a young kid when he took dares from his friends and “struggled to make the cut in a tough Atlanta Grammar”. In the beginning, Hoffman was in the moment and was very worried about completing this dare, but he became calmer and he felt relief once he found out that he did his task. Hoffman uses several types of diction to convey the change in the character’s attitude from over-preparing and stressed to being carefree and relieved.
