All the President’s Men is a 1976 drama, which was directed by Alan J. Pakula. The film stars Dustin Hoffman and Robert Redford who are both still very popular figures today. The film begins with five men who break into the National Democratic Party headquarters in the Watergate building. The Washington Post assigns Bob Woodward, who is new to the paper and has been working on the local news desk. Then Carl Bernstein, who is another reporter for the paper who is more of a hack and close to being fired, wants to work on the story. Woodward agrees to let him help. One of Woodward’s contacts says that, the five men breaking in, is part of a much bigger story. The contact’s nickname is “Deep Throat.” Woodward and Bernstein end up connecting the five men to thousands of dollars in diverted campaign contributions to Nixon’s Committee to re-elect him. It started in the beginning of the film when Bob Woodward was assigned to report on the five men who broke into the Watergate building. He handles situations the right way and was not sleazy like some of the journalists we watched in previous films. If it was not for the journalists in the movie to investigate the Watergate Scandal then Nixon would have never resigned and it would have been much easier for him to get away with his wrongdoing. Bob Woodward is portrayed as an official hero in All the President’s Men. He works within the system and has respect for moral values. In the previous films we watched, journalists were portrayed as villains with exception of Deadline USA. The plot of the film tackles the most serious subject that we watched so far. A scandal involving the US president is as serious as it could get. It was interesting to watch how the reporters and journalists dealt with this subject.
