1940s fashion period was one of the biggest turning points in the history of fashion. When Germany attacked Poland in 1939, it set in motion many of the events for the coming decade, including fashion. In the USA, almost all women were associated in some way or the other with the men who had enlisted and this had its effort on female attire. A more utilitarian approach towards clothing was adopted as a gesture of support on a sentimental level as well as for practical purposes. Fashion in the 1940s was a good mix of comfort and glamour. There were specific outfits that were meant for specific times of the day. Men were still pretty dressed up. Suits, ties and hats were common place in public. So styling of clothes was less significant. Moreover, 1940s era was more conservative in the sense that women and men were more laden with clothes and flaunting was rare and distant. Therefore more emphasis was placed on the hairstyling and accessories. They suited the conservative image of the forties and the service uniforms.
