What Is My Cultural Identity

Cultural identity has always been a disputable issue. Especially when I am asked to choose between black or Hispanic in school forms. Born in the United States but parents from Cuba I have never really known which to choose. Normally when asked where I am from I respond with “I was born here in Florida, but my parents are Cubans” as if that makes it any clearer for them. Being raised in a home where my first language was Spanish because it was the only way to communicate with my parents was less challenging. But as I grew older the language started to slowly dissolve resembling salt in water. Language plays an important role in my life. The only way to be able to communicate not only with my parents, but with my family that lives in Cuba
