An epic hero is someone who is a respected figure of society. He also puts the good of society before himself in order to save others and to promote the ideals of his culture. The best examples of an epic hero are found in the story of the Trojan War and in Homer’s The Iliad. The two heroes who fought against each other are Achilles (Greece) and Hector (Troy). Although they both fought bravely, Achilles is the better hero because he has superhuman strength, intelligence, and courage; he is a strong and responsible leader; and he performs brave deeds. As a hero of superhuman strength, Achilles was rumored to be immortal. This is almost true because when Achilles was a baby, Thetis, his mother, dipped him into the River Styx but she was careless
