What is an epic hero? Well an epic, as defined by McDougal Little, is “a long narrative poem that celebrates a hero’s deeds.” This makes an epic hero the person in which the epic is written about. In the epic poems of “Beowulf” and “The Iliad”, the main characters, were the epic heroes. Both of these poems are about the story of how Beowulf and Achilles battled and killed people/creatures courageously. Beowulf was written in about 750, which is actually an estimated guess because no one really knows when or by whom Beowulf was written. The Iliad was written by Homer in about 700 B.C.
