A new growth spurt for the Urgent Care industry began in the mid-1990s and continues today. Since 2008, the number of facilities has increased from 8,000 to 9,300. The public’s desire for immediate access to medical care has been the driving force behind this monumental growth.(AAUCM, 2015) Care Spot is a urgent care company started in 2001 and continues to spread by opening new centers primarily in the southern region of the U.S . This organization has been around for 14 years. The original name for this organization is Solantic Urgent Care which is founded by the current Governor of Florida Rick Scott . Extended night and weekend hours ,Express walk-in options, such as the ability to reserve your spot online or by phone ,online appointment scheduling On-site lab, X-rays and pharmacy are the services that are provided at each Care Spot facilities. A unique aspect of Care Spot is that it is a provider, and also payer at the same time so there is no need for a patient to do the legwork or wait for a bill in the mail because everything is taken care of in- house. Care Spot has clinics in Florida , Tennessee , and Missouri . CareSpot has continued to form alliances with various hospitals and healthcare partners . Currently there is TriStar Health, Baptist Health , HCA Midwest, HMA , and Shands with these recent moves you can see that CareSpot is evolving and their status in the ACO arena. Urgent care centers generally emphasize convenient care and feature extended evening and weekend hours. While this is also true of retail clinics, neither typically comes close to the 24- hour-a-day, 7-day–a-week availability of services in emergency departments. Urgent care centers, retail clinics, and emergency departments all emphasize unscheduled care to a far greater extent than most primary care practices do.(Betancourt,Weinick, 2007) . This unique form of healthcare delivery also form unique relationships CareSpot as stated has a relationship with a ACO provider HCA Midwest , non profit health organizations like Baptist Health in Florida, and accepts several PPO , HMO insurances. As health care is continuing to shift into a different direction from before .The implementation of the Affordable Care Act is likely to lead to continued growth in retail clinics. The increased demand for primary care services and a predicted shortage of primary care physicians will lead to continually decreasing access to primary care . In addition, emergency rooms continue to see high volumes, prompting patients with minor acute conditions to seek care at low-cost, walk-in retail clinics instead in the upcoming years.
