Life after death would that sound fun to you? It might happen to you when you're swimming; you have to read on to find out if it happens to Jerry. In the story there is a boy named Jerry and his mother that goes on vacation. During their vacation they go to the beach. On their way to the beach Jerry see’s a Wild bay area. Jerry decides he wants to go a Wild bay as his mother goes to the Safe beach. So at the Wild bay Jerry says a tunnel under water and so he wants to go into it. The story “Though the Tunnel” by Doris Lessing uses symbolism. Symbolism is best described when you take an object and give it more meaning that it should hold. It symbolizes isolation because he is putting himself out of an environment that has lifeguards and putting himself in place without a secure environment but Jerry is only 11 years old. In the story the author told the readers that there was a Safe beach and a Wild beach and Jerry would go to the wild bay where there were no lifeguards. So by isolating his self it shows the readers he does not want to be around anyone and he wants to do his own thing. Jerry’s mother forces reader to think if she is doing her job as a mother and she is questioning her parenting skills and she is thinking to herself if what she is doing is going to be the right choice or if Jerry is going to get hurt. His mother forces the readers to wonder if it was the right thing to do or if it would be a bad result. Jerry was talking to himself about the sharp rocks and about one of the rocks which had a red, brownish purplish color on it made Jerry question himself if he should go down the path to the Wild bay which could be giving him a sign that it is a bad place. Jerry forces the reader to think if it is blood on the rocks and makes the readers wonder if he should be going into the Wild
