The review of related literature will feature the articles found in relation with the study. It will also serve as a support for the information presented in this paper. This will include stress, its definition, factors and possible causes, and the coping mechanisms that is usually used by common individuals. Gathered information like surveys and studies from the professional workplace which will also be used to support the research will also be presented in this review. Stress is prevalent in college. When stress is present, one’s body and mind must attend to it in order to retain one’s balance. The body reacts to stress by releasing hormones that help one to cope with the situation. That in turn takes energy away from the other functions of the brain, like concentrating, or taking action. There are two different sources of stress: external triggers, like getting a poor grade or breaking up with your girlfriend/boyfriend, and internal triggers, like placing high expectations on yourself. Stress is a part of everyday life. There are many instances when stress can be helpful. A fire alarm is intended to cause the stress that alerts you to avoid danger. The stress created by a deadline to finish a paper can motivate one to finish the assignment on time. But when experienced in excess, stress has the opposite effect. Ji and Zhang (2011) states that students suffering from mental stress may in turn have physical or mental illness, which may even lead to temporary absence from school. From a psychological point of view, stress is a recognitive and behavioral experience process constituted by mental stress sources and mental stress reactions altogether. Mental stress needs an immediate medication and effective coping mechanisms in order for the result not to worsen. Accounting students suffering from mental stress needs to reduce and manage stress that they are experiencing. Learning how to manage responsibilities, accomplish goals ahead of time and still have time for rest and relaxation requires one to practice time management skills. Some coping mechanism that can remove mental stress includes regular exercise, good sleeping habits, and doing recreational activities.
