Freedom: In the short story, “The Story of an Hour’’ authored by Kate Chopin in 1894, Mrs. Mallard (The Protagonist) has undergone the loss of her husband Mr. Mallard, and as the story unfolds we perceive how she copes with her feelings about the matter. Mrs. Mallard may start off as a tentative wife, despite the fact of Mrs. Mallard’s grief transforms into relief and freedom, and thus we see Mrs. Mallard has matured into a stronger and more independent person. The start of the story is devoted to Mrs. Mallard’s delicacy. She is given a role as a powerless hearted woman; “Knowing that Mrs. Mallard was afflicted with a heart trouble, great care was taken to break to her as gently as possible the news of her husband’s death’’(120). Chopin’s words come across that Mrs. Mallard is not a solid individual, not in just simply wellbeing however, in identity as well; “There would be no powerful will bending hers in that blind persistence with…show more content…
Mallard went from being a compliant wife to a person with a sense of independence due to the death of her husband. She communicates her excitement for her nonexistence without Mr. Mallard. “Her fancy was running riot along those days ahead of her spring days, and summer days, and all sorts of days that would be her own. She breathed a quick prayer that life might be long. It was only yesterday she had thought with a shudder that life might be long” (122). Mrs. Mallard was overjoyed with the thought of the changes of her life; she envisioned that her own free will would oversee the rest of her days. It is clear that Mrs. Mallard’s contemplations have improved. She is confident that her life will be best without anyone else, which lets us know that her self-assurance is developing; now Mrs. Mallard feels that she can pursue her dreams and free will. Disastrously, Mrs. Mallard’s thoughts again will absolutely turn around, sadly in her grave. “When the doctor came they said she had died of heart disease-of joy that kills”
