The Patriots had many reasons why they wanted to be separated from Great Britain. After the french and indian war, Great Britain got into a lot of debt. Their only way to find a way out of their problem to pay for it was to tax the patriots. They were taxed on everything such as tea, stamps and even sugar. Their voice was taken from them. They had no say in Parliment, taxes or government. Also, they were forced to listen to all of the unnecessary laws. The Intolerable Acts of 1774 closed down the Boston Harbor. Many colonists were making money from that harbor! How were they expected to make money? Also, the acts closed took away their voice, and right to vote.
