Professor Raymond Carver and the Cathedral is a very interesting story, yet told by an author that seems to know very little about how the blind thinks and react to life situations. Nevertheless, when focused on one subject matter, other related details may go unidentified or untold. Raymond Carver is the author of cathedral ad known for his many poems and short stories. According to Backpack Literature, “Raymond Carver was born in 1938 in the small town of Clatskanie, Oregon, to an alcoholic father who worked at a saw mill and a mother who worked as a waitress”. Raymond stories mainly take place in his native Pacific Northwest region. The cathedral is set in days from when they switch from black and white to color television was in its early Periods, and when cassette tapes were n fashion. The basic setting of the story is a middle-class home, the narrator's house over a single evening In 1983 the cathedral was the book that put Raymond on the map, he became the first winner of Mildred and Harold Strauss Living Award, and in 1984 he was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. He received lots of other honors, fellowships, and awards Cathedral is generally considered to be one of Carver's finest works It seems that Raymond wrote this story as a confessional. The cathedral can be related to Raymond in many ways. For instance a few of Raymond stories have lower-middle-class characters which he been through while growing up.so the author uses these stories as a way to express the way he feel. Robert, a blind man who led a normal life had a working, as well as a personal relationship with the unnamed wife. She assisted Robert with reading considering he was blind and other house duties. In the story, Robert was far from what people thought was a typical blind person .Many people believe blind people are unable to do most jobs. Robert works, travels, watches TV, smokes, and drinks Roberts basically does the same thing as everybody else .However, the unnamed narrator shows Robert (the blind), as a weak and helpless individual. For instance, in the story the unnamed wife portrays to be overly helpful towards Robert. She seemed to have cared more for Robert (the blind) than her husband (the unnamed narrator). On the contrary, the unnamed narrator implied selfishness and jealousy. The unnamed narrator felt as if he had nothing in common with Robert. It could be that he refused to build a relationship or become acquainted, considering the unnamed wife’s and Robert’s history. For instance, when Robert and the blind man were sending tapes back and forth to would open up and tell Robert everything. However, their views concerning religion posed questions about the
