The figure of a woman, in the sky, with her arms outstretched and chained at the wrists is a representation of the beautiful princess Andromeda. Although she was a princess, the daughter of Cepheus and Cassiopeia, has a tragic story.
Andromeda is the princess of Ethiopia and daughter of Cepheus and Cassiopeia. The mother Cassiopeia was a foolish, boastful woman, who bragged that she was more beautiful than the Goddess Juno herself. In order to avenge this insult Neptune sent a sea monster to ravage and destroy the Ethiopian Coast. Horrified, the king consulted with Ammon, the Oracle of Jupiter, who said that Neptune had to sacrifice Andromeda to a sea monster. And so Andromeda was chained to a rock on the coast.
