Police brutality is a big controversial issue in the United States. Police Brutality is the use of excessive force, usually physical, but also common in forms of verbal attacks and psychological intimidation, by a police officer. People find them self-asking why does police brutality occur? They figure police officers are supposed to be loyal and protective of their citizens, not betray them in a way they feel is violent and cruel. However, man’s inhumanity to mankind. Their void of compassion, sympathy, respect, and empathy towards another. (Moe, N.D). In other words, there might be people in any profession that enjoy hurting others. The statistics among police brutality is that every 8 hours cops kill an American citizen. Cops are indicted in less than 1% of killings, but the indictment rate for citizens is 90%. (Parker 2005). Racism is a hatred or intolerance of another race or other races. Police officers on patrol in our nation’s cities work in environments where a huge percent of street crime is committed supposedly by young men of color. After many years of police work by certain officers, their attentions is to only go with what they know and feel about these men of color committing these crimes. Which is a mental statement that becomes almost irresistible and maybe even rational by lights. An example of this is two young black men on one side of the street look like so many others that the police claim they have locked up. Two white men on the other side of the street even in the same clothes do not. The police officers does not make the same association about the two white men, and that’s why drives different behavior. The police officer turns toward one side of the street and not the other because a young man of color will always look like a suspect.
