Personal Narrative: Softball

Some people think that softball is just a game. A game where you are playing for yourself and want all eyes on you. However, softball is just the opposite. It’s a passion I’ve had for the past seven years. Seven years with parents on the other side of the fence just a hootin’ and hollerin’ as if they were in the game. A place where the people around me always have my back no matter what. A place where I met my two best friends. A job where money isn't my paycheck. A sport where discipline, leadership, and life lessons are taught. Softball is more than just a game; it’s my life. I can say I have found the best of friends from softball. Two of my best friends, Madison Kelly Newton and Bryce Danielle Miller, and I met through softball. I can count on them to always have my back no matter what. I know if I called them in the middle of the night just to talk, they would answer. They always push me to be a better athlete as well as a better person. When they are criticizing me, I know they are doing it to make me a better person, instead of trying to knock me down. Ranging from lessons that have not affected me in any way, to lessons that have. The biggest lesson I have learned from softball is that the other girls on my team are not my enemies, they are my sisters. In little league I liked being the hot shot and always having eyes on me. But, as the years went on and high school got closer, I found that the other eight players on the field are just as important as I am. They might not be as good as me or they might be ten times better than me, but in a game that does not matter. What matters is how encouraging and positive I am as soon as someone makes a mistake. What matters off the field is how quickly I am to defend my "sister". Not defending as in a fight, but defending her if someone was talking bad about her or trying to put her
