King’s Childhood Micheal King Jr. was born on January 15, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia and later changed his name to Martin Luther King Jr. He was the middle child of Martin Luther King Sr. and Alberta Williams King. Martin has an older sister and younger brother named Willie Christine and Alfred Daniel Williams King. The children including Martin, grew up in a protective and loving environment. On May, 1936, King was baptized, but later in his childhood, it became a tragic twist. On May, 1941, at 12 years old, Martin’s Grandmother, Jennie, passed from a heart attack. He became traumatized, and tried to jump off from a second story window at his house. Rebuilding Faith Years later, Martin used to attend at Booker T. Washington High School, but skipped the ninth and eleventh grade to join Morehouse College at age 15. Even though King’s family was involved with church, he was unsure about religion in general. He always thinked that christianity was filled with fake people. But in King’s Jr. year in college, he started to take bible class and became interested in christianity. 3 years later, he was elected for student body president at the Liberal Crozer Theological seminary in Chester, Pennsylvania. In the last year of seminary, the Moorehouse college president, Benjamin E. Mays, was an advocate for equality and encouraged Martin to view Christianity as a social change. Martin then got enrolled at Boston University. During his decorate, he met the aspiring singer and musician, Coretta Scott.
