People around the world love listening to music, but depending on their location they may have a different taste in music than others. An example of this is the people in Spanish speaking countries. They all share the same language, but their taste in music could not be any more different. Some of the best known genres of traditional music in Mexico are Mariachi, Ranchera, and Norteño. When people think about Mexican music, the first thing that comes to mind is Mariachi music. It is often played at weddings, quinceañeras, and Mother’s Day. A Mariachi band usually composed of violins, trumpets, a classical guitar, and a five string guitar. It originated in the nineteenth century in the state of Jalisco. Ranchero music comes from traditional folklore about love, patriotism, or nature. The word Ranchero comes from the word ranch because the music comes from the ranches or rural Mexico. Norteño music consists of the accordion and the twelve string guitar. The accordion, waltz, and polka were brought to Northern Mexico from Europe in the late nineteenth century.
