Boer (2012), in Living Into Focus, discusses heavily the dangers of modern life’s technological distractions and its increasing pace. With the huge number of screens we increasingly spend our time with, we spend less time having face-to-face interaction with other humans. Boers’ work emphasizes heavily the need for deeper human connection, tying itself to Palmer’s (2004) statements on attachment and the consequences of detachment – Palmer and Boer alike advocate heavily for a similar societal vision of an ‘undivided life’ that is smaller in scope, but more fully lived.
