Since discovery, America has been seen as the land of opportunity for many ethnicities far and wide. It proposed religious freedom, jobs, land, and a chance to restart life with a clean slate. Two major ethnicities that took a chance in the land of the free were the Germans and the Latinos. Though they have many differences, including the time of immigrating, they were also looking for many of the same opportunities. For the Germans, they pursued a life in America to have the freedom to practice their religion wherever they liked and to be rescued from poverty (Janzen 1). They made their way to America in ships since that was their only way of transportation across the Atlantic Ocean. They mainly made their way to New York, North Carolina or New Jersey. Their highest flow of immigrants at it's peak was for twenty-nine years, starting in 1727 and ending in 1756 (Huber 1). Latinos were in a difficult situation where wars were waging and they wanted to be free from oppression of the Spanish. America also had an impact on them in the frontier. Their hard work "led to dearly held traits," such as being, "very thrifty and self-reliant" (Woodward 1). They eventually became very self-sufficient and productive helping out the American economy. Since they cherished liberty they and were willing to put up a fight for it, they also contributed to the assertion of American independence (Woodward 1). The Latinos also brought a lot of their culture into America, such as, music, entertainment, and diversity. Even though they were hardworking, they were seen as disrupting the American economy and holding jobs of the whites during the depression. When it came around, the employers would let go of the latinos and employ the whites, leaving the latinos grasping for
