Katniss Everdeen: Strong, Brave. Fierce In the movie and book, The Hunger Games, Katniss Everdeen is one of the strongest characters as she is compassionate, brave, intelligent, and fierce, but to some, her strength can also be seen as a weakness. It was her strength that got her into the Hunger Games in the first place. Near the beginning of the movie during an event called the reaping, Katniss’s sister Prim’s name is chosen to participate in the 74th annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death between 24 chosen participants. Katniss being strong, proves her love for her sister by volunteering as tribute in her place. This is where her strength betrays her, for if she were not brave then it would be her sister who would have to fight for her life in the Hunger Games instead of her. In the film she is seen as strong willed and a leader figure instead of being a lovey dovey girl or a attention seeker like many girls in films. She is stronger than Peeta. He is shown as physically strong but mentally he is much weaker. Katniss on the other hand possesses both mental and physical strength. Katniss is the one who saves and protects Peeta. She is the hero. This is different from the typical female lead who is usually the one being saved. Katniss is The Girl On Fire. Katniss is not celebrity material, she is not funny or charming, but she must learn. Cameras are on her 24/7 because of the hunger games. She always has to participate in televised interviews. With the help of her mentor and stylist Katniss becomes a great celebrity.
