This panel session centered on police in the community; who is affected by it, and how can we better relations with them in our community. Among those sitting on the panel were: a Senior Youth Prevention Specialist of Gang Alternatives, the current Public Safety Director for the University, a student who is a distant relative of Michael Brown, an adjunct professor, and a board member of PACT who works with the NRO (neighborhood resource officers) and Miami Gardens Police Department. One specific view presented was the disproportionate rate of African-American men incarcerated. Most of whom are incarcerated for misdemeanors (minor offenses) and yet have received punishment that is equivalent to a felony. Such as, a drug related issue;
