Constantinople was the main region where Theodora lived. Emperor Justinian took reign somewhere between the years 527-565. Theodora, when looked at a particular point of view, has influenced the gender issues by informing the leaders of the empire to amend the rules in order to keep the rights that women need. The empress also influenced social issues by demonstrating the ascension in the social class is possible. Politically, Theodora kept the Byzantine empire intact by advising Justinian in times of crisis. Theodora was a great help to Justinian in times of crisis because, as an empress, she advised him and told him what he needed to do in order to keep the empire functioning properly. In fact, Theodora practiced a lot of influence towards the population more than Justinian.(E.B. Theo.) The advices helped the women gain the rights women need. Theodora influenced gender issues by informing the leaders about pimping. The rulers passed this law and made pimping illegal, making it possible for women to not be abused (Nov. 14). Growing up as a call-girl, Theodora had gone through the adventures and struggles a person would go through. The empress remembered the struggles and decided to speak in behalf of the people (Sec.His.Theo.Back.). Procopius wrote “The Secret History” because the enforcement of Justinian to speak good about Theodora (E.B.Pro.). The writing is mainly about the life of Procopius and the document was produced between 490 - 507 in Constantinople. The documents Procopius produced sarcastically explained the life of Theodora because of the order from Justinian. The writer's point of view is negative towards Theodora.
