Scout matures through the course of the book. In To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee incorporates dialogue to show Scout’s innocence and how she learns about the society through these verbal interactions. Two examples of Scout’s verbal interactions are with Mr. Raymond and Miss Gates. During Scout’s chat with Mr. Raymond, she learns an aspect about their society and makes progress towards losing her innocence. When Dill got sick inside the court, Scout took him outside to get some fresh air. That is when they met Mr. Raymond, who offered Dill some ‘alcohol’ which later turned out to be Coca-Cola.
