Imagine a world where everyone is the exact same. No one is smarter than someone else, or more attractive, or stronger. Harrison Bergeron lived in that "perfect" world until he tried to change it. In fact Harrison is a hero because he tried to change everything for the better. In the year 2081 everyone is equal. Most people wear handicaps which limits their abilities so no one is more than someone else. Harrison Bergeron was taken away from his family at age 14 because he was thought to have been plotting against the government. A few years later Harrison broke out of jail and went to the theatre. While he was there he took off his handicaps and others' handicaps. A couple minutes later Harrison and a ballerina began to dance, but were shot by the Handicap General. Harrison does not believe that the government is doing right by making everyone equal and that's what he tries to show society. When Harrison goes to the theatre he takes off his handicaps to show power and freedom. Harrison also instructs the ballerina and the musicians to take of their handicaps. "Harrison tore the straps of his handicap harness like wet tissue paper, tore straps guaranteed to support five thousand pounds. Harrison's scrap-iron handicaps crashed to the floor. Harrison thrust his thumbs under the bar of the padlock that secured his head harness. The bar snapped like celery. Harrison smashed his headphones and spectacles against the wall. He flung away his rubber-ball nose, revealed a man that would have awed Thor, the god of thunder." (pg.3). While Harrison does all this he makes sure that he is being broadcasted so everyone will see. Harrison wants everyone to see the government for what it really is when he gets shot by the Handicap
