Obtaining food in the Western Hemisphere was widely done by methods of hunting and gathering by weapons made of stone. Animals such as, mammoth, deer, elk, etc. made up the majority of food for these original inhabitants. In early 5000 B.C.E, Indians began engaging in agriculture, growing and raising crops. Different levels of knowledge of this practice varied among inhabitants. This new found method of being able to raise and grow their own food brought about a tremendous change in Indian life. This new settled way of life brought about the construction of buildings, new found ways to maintain beautiful pieces of art and crafts. The food became plentiful and better. Weaponry alone would not be able to defeat the Aztecs. Cortes was smart, and strategically planned out the Aztec’s demise. Once he and his army of six hundred were settled into the palace, Montezuma was surrounded, questioned, and demanded to know where the gold was. Quetzal feathers, disks of gold, jewelry, greaves, crowns, precious stones, were all taken while the rest was burned. Cortes attacked the Aztecs during a fiesta that had been active. The Spaniards closed all the entrances, passageways, and all the gates in the patio. Guards were posted all around so that no one could escape. The attack was brutal; slashing, stabbing, spearing, and striking with their swords and using their horses to get around quickly. Aztecs trying to escape by force, climbing walls, and the communal house were all caught and killed in the same manner. Word about the Aztec warriors got out and it’s when the real fight had taken place.
