They work to set academic and career goals with the student, work with teachers, parents and students to help students succeed, help students to develop personal and academic skills, provide individual or small group counseling, and provide resources outside of the school for additional support. The lowest level of education needed for entry into this field would be a master’s degree in school counseling, state-issued credential, and an internship under the supervision of a licensed professional school counselor. The most desirable major for becoming a school counselor would be psychology. The employment for School counselors is expected to grow 12% between now and 2022. Cons of being a school counselor would be helping the students prepare for their futures career-wise. Pros of being a school psychologist would be getting to work with students on deeper issues and the higher wage. Cons of being a school psychologist would be less versatility in my job and working with a lot of the same things every day. Pros of being a clinical mental health counselor would be the growing employment rate and again getting to work in depth with the people. Cons of being a clinical mental health counselor would be working with the same types of patients. Out of these three jobs I still believe being a school counselor would be the best fit for me. I think that it would be good because I get to work on a variety of things with the students and help them grow as individuals.
