Growing up, I can not count how many times I heard the phrase “there’s always someone who has it worse”. Every time I was told this, my body filled with irritation. I would propose that that excruciating Geometry test which caused an unfathomable amount of stress, sleep deprivation and anxiety was far beyond the problems of others. How inconsiderate, I thought, that someone would devalue my issues during a time of such great distress. It was a humid July morning, the type of day that leaches all the life out of you by the minute you wake up, and I was en route to the middle of nowhere, Maine.
