My first impression of “Fahrenheit 451” was that I thought it was weird, sad, and engrossing. This novel seemed weird at first because of the mechanical hound. The mechanical hound was described as an eight legged mechanic that is made out of ”copper wire, storage batteries, and electricity.” (Bradbury 26) We have yet to discover this strange creature’s purpose other than killing small rodents with it’s four-inch hollow steel needle and for having a strange altercation with Montag. Secondly, this novel seemed sad on certain occasions especially when the women had died with her books. The only sympathetic fireman we can see was Montag who was deeply disturbed by this incident and is the only one who attempted to rescue the women. He feels
